Kids Spot

About the Program

Camp Gan Israel strives to maintain small, manageable classes and highly trained instructors. Lifeguards will be on duty during the class to monitor the area for the safety of each individual student. The classes will be 1/2 hour each swim session, with three (3) lessons per week. Campers not taking lessons will be able to have free swim while the other campers have their lessons. 

At the end of the Learn-to-swim session all children will be awarded a certificate which will list the skills learned during the class.

Lessons

Campers will have lessons three times a week (Monday, Tuesday and Thursday) for 1/2 hour.

Fees

Weeks 1-6: $30.00 per week.

Class Descriptions

Kindergarten:

This is a fun class designed to encourage small children to explore and enjoy the water.

Child will be introduced to:

  • Proper holding and cueing
  • Safety skills
  • Breath control
  • Back float (assisted)
  • Roll-over, front to back (assisted)
  • Jumping into water (assisted)
  • Fun water activities and songs 
     

Level I 

Children will be introduced to:

  • Submerge mouth, nose, and eyes
  • Blowing bubbles
  • Breath control (bobs)
  • Back float (assisted)
  • Front float (assisted)
  • How to wear a lifejacket
  • Kicking 
     

Level II 

Children must be able to go under water comfortably. These lessons are for children ages 5-12. The objective of Level II is for students to propel themselves on their front and back using coordinated arm and leg actions. Treading water and bobbing are also introduced in this level. Prerequisites include prior completion of a Level I course or the ability to demonstrate all the skills required to pass Level I.

Children will be introduced to:

  • Front float and recover
  • Rollover back to front
  • Front glide and recover
  • Back float and recover
  • Back glide and recover
  • Kicking around the pool (assisted) 
     

Level III 

Level III is for children ages 6-12. The objective of Level III is continued improvement on the front and back crawl and to learn the butterfly kick and body motion. Rotary breathing and survival floats are also included in this level. Prerequisites include prior completion of a Level II course or the ability to demonstrate all the skills required to pass Level II.

Children will be introduced to:

  • Streamline
  • Rollover front to back
  • Front crawl
  • Back crawl
  • Dolphin kicks 
     

Level IV 

These lessons are for children ages 6-12. The objective of Level IV is for students to develop confidence and improve on the front and back crawl and butterfly, while also being introduced to the elementary backstroke and breaststroke. Diving rules and safety assists are also built upon in this level. Prerequisites for this course include prior completion of a Level III course or ability to demonstrate all the skills required to pass Level III.
